In 1981, further to an overall reorganization of the EWL Group, the capital shares of Ellerman & Wilson Lines Agency Co. were taken over by Trieste shareholders, under the guidance and direction of the Managing Director, Mr. Dario Samer.
Mr. Dario Samer is a leading figures in the shipping field of Trieste. After a nautical education, he joined the company in 1952. After graduating through every department, from arrivals, customs formalities, stevedoring and claims,through to canvassing, freight negotiations and conference work, he was appointed assistant manager in 1964 and managing director in 1968. In 1985, the company style was changed into Samer & Co. Shipping S.r.l., Trieste.
Since the early 80s, Mr.Dario Samer is being assisted in the Company's management by his son Enrico, as commercial and operations manager, and daughter Lilli, as Insurance and Administration manager.
In 1988, Samer & Co. Shipping founded a new company specialized in supervising and stevedoring, container control and terminal operations, named "Samer Seaports & Terminals": many local agents are already employing this firm for their port operations.
Samer & Co. Shipping is a member of BIMCO since 1994.
The Samer group is operative, with their own agencies, in the Italian ports of Monfalcone, Porto Nogaro, Ravenna, as well as in the Slovenian port of Koper, the Croatian port of Rijeka, the Montenegro Port of Bar, the Serbian port of Belgrade and the Albanian port of Durres. An efficient network of sub-agents in all Italian and Croatian ports has been established over the years.
At present, the head office has a staff of 80 experienced employees who deal efficiently and professionally with all the aspects of shipping and maritime activities.

 

ORIGINS AND HERITAGE

EllermanEllerman & Wilson Lines Agency Company Ltd., Trieste, founded on 1st December, 1919 isan outpost of the British maritime transport giant EWL.
Its development was fostered during the 1930s with the opening of branches at Rijeka and Susak (in present day Croatia). Although both branches were closed down after the Second World War, the company's contacts with former Yugoslav operators are still close.
In 1932, the Company was appointed Lloyd's Agents and in 1972 obtained appointment from the Institute of London Underwriters.
In 1973, Ellerman & Wilson Lines, Trieste, took over Edgar H.Greenham & Co., a company operating principally in the insurance field. The activity of the company has been developed over the years as a sister company, which still carries out an important role in Samer & Co. Shipping present day organization.
